| Q & A with RxYLab Q: Where does your artist name come from? A: It comes from Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, I used to use my button config as R,X,Y,L,A,B meaning: R = Light Punch X = Medium Punch Y = Hard Punch L = Light Kick A = Medium Kick B = Hard Kick .... the good old days. Q: Tell us more about your musical roots! A: Basically I was a Michael Jackson fan when I was way young... about 5 or whatever [he used to tell me he was my favourite]. But my cousin put on Aphex Twins ‘Selected Ambient Works 85 – 92’ when I was about 8 or something like that and I fell in love with it straight away. I kept replaying ‘Ageispolis’ all the time, just blew my mind... the whole album was just amazing. My brothers would get stuff by The Orb, Orbital, Banco De Gaia, Enigma, Phillip Glass, FSOL etc. All the ambient stuff basically. I would just fucking love it, even from that young age. Q: How did you start producing music? A: I got a pair of Decks for my 16th birthday [thanks again to my brother] and got really involved with them and then thought I would try my hand at producing. Q: Are you also a DJ? A: Fuck ye. Q: Do you work together with other artists also? E.g. Remixes? A: Ye, well whenever I can. Q: Do you have any special musical aims? A: Just to get recognized. Q: What do you think of the contemporary popular music which is played by normal radio stations? A: Jihad is fighting for the wrong cause. These are the true infidel. Q: What have you read recently (book, play, film, etc.) that moved or surprised you? A: I don’t read at all, the only book I have read [by myself] is ‘A Clockwork Orange’, amazing book. Q: What is your all-time favorite track? Why? A: Can’t say, there’s too many tracks that I love. Q: What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect? A: Maybe liking Outkast? Is that surprising? |
